Squash Bug: Organic Control Options (Summary)

Squash bug is a potential problem on all cucurbits, and considered the most important pest of squash and pumpkins in the U.S. Using tightly secured gauze row covers until pollination will effectively control squash bug and disease in commercial organic production of cucurbits and related crops, as demonstrated by recent organic trials at Iowa State and West Virginia University. This publication also assesses older methods of organic control and addresses questions of relative market desirability of various cucurbits proposed as substitutes for types preferred by squash bugs.
