General Description: Aloha!!! We are a 4-acre farm located on the slopes of Haleakala on the island of Maui. There are many different aspects to our small farm, including: community you-pick vegetable gardens, 150 laying hens, 175 honey bee hives, milking goats and cows and an assortment of different fruit trees ranging from citrus and bananas to apples and nectarines. Maui Bees is very much a community based farm, supplying fruit and vegetables to the upcountry community as well as focusing on the community of people that work and live on the farm. Living and working here is a wonderful opportunity to learn an array of farming skills as well as be in a close-knit community. Meals: Meals are provided 7 days a week and most days we have a community lunch. Interns will have their own kitchen to cook in and food will be provided (most of it from the farm). Unfortunately we can not accommodate vegetarians or vegans as we almost always cook with dairy, eggs, honey and often bone broths made from our own processed chickens and local meat.

Skills Desired: Gardening and experience with animals if very helpful but not required!!! We would also love to have people who have skills with marketing and art. Most important is a good work ethic and a positive attitude and applicants should be strong as honey supers can be 30 to 60lbs.

Educational Opportunities: Bee keeping, organic gardening, milking, animal husbandry, cheese and yogurt making.

Stipend: After a one month trial a stipend may be offered, but it is minimal.

Housing: Interns will have their own bedroom and a shared kitchen, lounge and bathroom which they will be responsible for keeping clean.

Internship Details: We are looking for one or two people to join our team! This is a great opportunity to gain experience on a working farm with other wonderful, supportive people. This position could become long term for the right couple. Duties would include milking a cow and 7 goats twice daily as well as general care of the herd along with some turkeys and chickens. Applicants must be very dependable, have excellent health, possess outstanding character and a strong work ethic with a great sense of humor and preferably have previous experience with large farm animals (milking experience is not necessary as we can train the right person). This position requires extreme attention to detail and cleanliness in the milk house. Milking chores are from 6:30 AM to 8:00AM and 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Must be extremely dependable and love animals. We will be entrusting our animals to your care and will be very discerning about your qualifications (please have personal references available). No drugs or alcohol allowed.
