General Description: Nonprofit mini-farm growing 9 - 12 tons of fresh, organic produce that is all given away for donation. Located fifteen minutes south of Asheville in a small community, our goal is to build community as a way of eliminating hunger, using the garden and its produce as a vehicle. We have 1 acre under cultivation with six acres to expand into. As an educational garden, we model everything from hand-dug beds to BCS tiller beds to tractor beds and have a section that demonstrates methods such as lasagna, hugelkulture, square foot, container and others. We distribute at 5 locations including our local pantry via an outdoor market tent and at a Share-the-Harvest market via a produce stand. We think deeply about our work and are always looking for ways to do things better. We also partner with many organizations in the area. Several years ago we started a network of gardens that give away food where we work together to create best practices, share resources and mentor each other.
