General Description: South Wind Produce is located on 47 acres in Rougemont, NC just outside Durham. We grow vegetables, dry beans and rice on 10 acres. We are entering our sixth year of operation and we are currently transitioning to Certified Organic. We market at three area farmers markets and sell to a variety of local restaurants.

Meals: Daily lunch is provided on-farm using farm produce and eaten communally. We encourage workers to take seconds vegetables home.

Skills Desired: Ideal candidates are focused, strong, curious, engaged, and can work well independently and in groups. Crew member candidates should have: At least one year of farming experience. Strong communication skills. Ability to take constructive criticism. Desire to lead and take responsibility for tasks.

Educational Opportunities: Crew members will work alongside the farm owners daily. We encourage a positive working environment where crew members can ask questions and gain proficiency in general farm tasks. In addition to general farm work, We have opportunities in tractor operation and cultivation, irrigation setup, greenhouse management, market sales, construction and more based interest and skill. We are open to sharing and teaching about all aspects of the farm as we seek candidates who are interested in managing or owning their own vegetable farm. We are a member of CRAFT, a group of small farms that organizes monthly farm tours and potlucks with other vegetable farms in the area. It is a great opportunity to meet farmers and learn new skills and farm methods, only available to employees of member farms.

Stipend: Pay is hourly and based on experience with room for pay increases based on hard work and aptitude. Employees are welcome to take vegetables from the farm and a hot lunch is included every day.

Housing: There is currently no on-farm housing. Our farm is easily accessible from Durham and Hillsborough NC.

Internship Details: South Wind Produce is seeking two more full-time crew members to join our team. Crew members work alongside crew leader and farm owners in all areas of crop production and harvest. Tasks include greenhouse seeding, transplanting, harvest and prep crops for market, weeding and general farm upkeep. Crew members work 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, 40-50 hours per week.
