Agricultural activities account for one third of total greenhouse gas emissions, the lion's share of which comes from industrial agriculture. But farmers are also among the first to feel the impacts of climate change, as harvests fail due to increasingly extreme weather. More sustainable food systems which operate at a smaller scale can reduce emissions from agriculture and are more resistant to erratic climate. These small, sustainable systems are how to feed the world in the throes of climate change, according to a new report by the international alliance of Catholic development agencies CIDSE. The report, Agriculture: from Problem to Solution – Achieving the Right to Food in a Climate-Constrained World, is available online.
