Permalink EcoApple Reports 1,700 Acres of Fruit Certified in Northeast

The Eco Apple® program reports that in 2018, there are 17 Northeast orchards representing 1,700 acres of fruit certified by the program. The EcoApple program was developed to meet a need for ecological orchard standards appropriate for the Northeast climate and growing conditions. Administered by Red Tomato, it is described as a rigorous, ecology-based farming and third-party certification program that supports and rewards farmers who use the most eco-sensitive, minimally treated, natural methods possible to grow their fruit. Since the program began in 2005, more orchards have joined and their use of high-risk chemicals has declined significantly. Red Tomato has also introduced an Eco Stonefruit program in the Northeast.
