Microplastics Found in Organic Composts and Fertilizers
PermalinkResearch published in Science Advances by a team of researchers at the University of Bayreuth in Germany revealed that microplastic bits were present in organic fertilizers and composts made from biowaste. Sampling detected microplastics in all samples from both aerobic and anaerobic facilities, except the samples from a control facility that used only plant waste from a farm. Researchers suggested that these plastics are present in food waste and also come from storing the waste in plastic containers.
