Permalink Organic Corn-Breeding Project Progresses

A four-year organic corn-breeding project led by the University of Illinois is progressing with its on-farm testing of new varieties of organic corn, reports Agri-News. A July field day featured one of the sites where farmers are testing corn germplasm and providing feedback on how it performs and the characteristics that they are looking for. Project participant the Mandaamin Institute is developing corn with more methionine, lysine, and carotene to increase its feed value, and greater nitrogen efficiency to provide more protein.
