Permalink Rye Explored as Pig Feed

As part of a series exploring small grains as pig feed, Practical Farmers of Iowa has posted Small Grains, Large Gains: Feeding Rye to Pigs on its blog. Although rye has been little-used as a pig feed in the United States, its popularity as a cover crop has stimulated interest in the grain. Hybrid varieties are now available that are higher yielding and resistant to ergot. The post contains a chart comparing the nutrient content of rye to other grains, as well as information on how European pork producers feed rye. It also offers information on obtaining seed and marketing rye crops.
