Permalink Pasture Management: Recovery After a Drought

At this NOFA Vermont Organic Dairy Series event, join Brent Beidler, grazing consultant Sarah Flack, and UVM Agronomist Dr. Heather Darby at Beidler Family Farm to tour their fields and take a look at the Beidlers' irrigation system and their seed trials of corn, spelt, and summer annuals and discuss general grass-fed pasture management and the adaptations they've had to make with drought.

Permalink Farm Starts Beginning Organic Grain Farmers Workshop

FarmStarts is providing training for beginning farmers who have been in the business for less than 10 years. Conventional and organic producers are welcome to attend this free, day-long training. Topics include organic farming operations, organic grain marketing, organic crop insurance, soil health, organic certification, financial management, and an introduction to OFARM.

John Paul Franks has been gradually transitioning his 140-acre grain farm to organic production since 2010, certifying his first acreage in 2013. At this free afternoon field day presented by MOSES, he shares the hows and whys of his farm's transition, focusing on managing risk during the switch. He and John Martin, a longtime organic farmer from Williamsburg, also cover soil health and maximizing available organic nitrogen sources.
