This Tilth Alliance Farm Walk visits Sixknot Cider, a certified organic cidery and orchard located in the Methow Valley. Learn why Sixknot chose to build a taphouse instead of developing a less expensive, canned product to compete for retail shelf space. Additional information will be provided by Bri Ewing, WSU Extension Fermentation Specialist, and Tianna DuPont, WSU Extension Tree Fruit Specialist.

At the largest gathering of pastured meat-makers in the country, farmers, chefs, butchers, and industry leaders convene for two days of unparalleled networking, hands-on training, and technical and business assistance. This conference supports a growing community committed to advancing market opportunities and increasing customer access to pasture-based meats. Attendees can expect more than twenty innovative class sessions on diverse topics, butchery demos, special technical tracks for professionals, and many opportunities for social networking. New this year, NC Choices is holding a Pre-Conference event on September 24 for Extension agents, specialists, and associates seeking additional meat-related training in a smaller atmosphere.

Permalink On-Farm Food Safety Workshop

This two-hour on-farm food safety workshop takes place at Breigh Peterson and Darren Cloud's Mountian Cloud Farm. Certified trainer David Wise will teach participants how to look at the farm through the lens of food safety by leading us through the process of conducting an on-farm food safety assessment using the Good Agricultural Practices checklist as a guide.

Permalink Building Your Own Farm's Food Safety Manual Workshop

This program is a one-day workshop to help growers develop their own food safety manuals. It is targeted to fresh fruit and/or vegetable farming operations, field or greenhouse. The workshop is conducted using computers (one laptop is provided for in-house use per farm if necessary, limited laptops available) to access a web-based food safety manual development program. The workshop is limited to 20 farms on a first come, first serve basis. The workshop was developed and is presented by the University of Florida, Small Farms Academy Extension Agents, and is partially supported by a grant through the Florida Specialty Crops Block Grant program from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service.
