Permalink Twilight Chestnut Field Day

Gibsonville, North Carolina

North Carolina Cooperative Extension has organized a Twilight Field Day to feature Chestnut Production at High Rock Farm. This Field Day is intended for anyone interested in growing chestnuts, including experienced chestnut growers, farmers looking for a new enterprise, and beginner farmers. High Rock Farm is the largest chestnut orchard in the mid-Atlantic region.

Permalink Cover Crop Field Day

Fargo, North Dakota

North Dakota State University Extension Service is hosting a half-day field day with a bus tour that will feature information about 32 different cover crop species and how they can fit into a farming operation. In addition, a soybean research plot interseeded with cover crops will be showcased. At a third station, the effect of cover crops on soil health will be discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about cover crop research findings, as well as interact with other participants who already have experience in incorporating cover crops into their farm operations. Registration is required.

This two-hour on-farm food safety workshop takes place at Luke & Emily Black's Lone Mountian Farms. Certified trainer David Wise will teach participants how to look at the farm through the lens of food safety by leading us through the process of conducting an on-farm food safety assessment using the Good Agricultural Practices checklist as a guide.

This workshop is in the five-part Greenhorn Grazing series. The sessions include workshop and field segments. This series covers concepts relevant to all producers of grass-based livestock with topics ranging from the importance of managing forage, soil fertility, and water and fencing systems, to forage species selection, legal fencing and lease issues, and winter feeding plans.

From finger weeders to flex-tines to Allis G's and beyond, come to this full-day event at MSU Horticulture farm to learn the principles and tools for precise mechanical weed control from farmers and researchers. New weeding machines are recently available from Europe and many types and models of mechanical weeders will be on display and demonstrated in the field - old and new, American and European. You will hear from farmers using these tools, learn about cultivation techniques in Europe, see tools demonstrated, and enjoy lunch and time to speak with all the growers in attendance. Weeding machinery manufacturers will be displaying their wares as well. Bring your favorite weeding machine to show others if you wish.
