General Farm Description: We are a farm and winery in the heart of the Willamette valley in northwest Oregon. We have a total of 80 acres, 42 of that are wine grapes. We have honeybees, chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks, turkeys, donkeys, pigs, goats, miniature highland cows, alpacas, cats and one great Pyrenees dog, Abbey. We are an event space, bed and breakfast, tasting room and working farm. Abbey Road is an incredibly diverse establishment that offers a unique experience for anyone and everyone.

Internship Details:

Duties: On farm duties include harvesting, weeding, seeding, transplanting, heavy lifting, seed saving, bed prepping, watering and so on. This job will also include serving breakfast with our chef on the property, possible help with events, helping in our facilities department, assisting with beekeeping and delivering vegetables at our restaurant in Portland.

 

Expectations: We are looking to bring someone on for a full season, preferably March-September. Flexible on start and end time.  Above all, we are looking for someone with an exceptional attitude with an eagerness to learn. We are asking for a work exchange of 30 hours p/week. This very rewarding, but very trying work. We will be working through all weather conditions. This position is catered toward someone with agriculture or outdoor experience.

Farming practices: We farm organically with a focus on biodiversity and sustainability.

 

Living conditions and guidelines: We have a room in our downstairs apartment available. This is a clean comfortable space with an accessible shower. We ask that our interns be respectful of the space provided. Vegetables, eggs and possibly meat are included. In addition, we will also have a staple food list that will be turned in biweekly to restock.

 

Financial opportunities: We are nestled in the heart of Oregon wine country. If you have an interest in wine, there are quite a few opportunities to work a wine “harvest” job. This work typically lines up at the end of the farm season, a perfect transition! We also have opportunities on the farm throughout the year to make some extra cash.

 

Additionally, we will be providing a monthly stipend.

 

Surrounding areas: There is no shortage of wineries, hiking trails, restaurants and more. We’re 1.5 hours from the closest coastal city and 1 hour from Portland, Oregon. We have some beautiful surrounding areas that apply to a wide range of interests.
