General Farm Description: Abe’s Acres Farm is a diversified no-till market garden situated on a historic family farm in beautiful Hightstown, NJ. We grow over 40 crops and over 150 different varieties on ¾ of an acre, including a greenhouse, high tunnel, and caterpillar tunnel. We sell through a small CSA and two local farmers markets. This will be our fifth full growing season.CRAFT Member Farm? Yes

Abe’s Acres Farm is seeking an energetic candidate with at least 1-2 years of experience in vegetable production to be the assistant manager for the 2021 growing season. The assistant manager will be involved in all aspects of vegetable production on our ¾ acre no-till market garden and in cooperation with the owner will manage one or two aspects of the farm operation. The ideal candidate will be interested in pursuing farming as a career. This position will be highly collaborative with the owner. You will have the opportunity to learn from the owner’s 8 years of experience in small-scale vegetable production, but you will also have the opportunity to contribute, critique, brainstorm, and refine processes and methods to make the farming operation even more efficient and productive. If you’re interested in getting a real, hands-on experience of managing a market garden, this position will provide that opportunity. After a successful season, the owner is also open to talking about long-term business partnership with the right candidate.
Educational Opportunities: Access to NJ CRAFT, on-the-job training, NOFA-NJ workshops and conferences, as well as the learning experience of managing a farm.
Skills Desired: The Assistant Manager will be involved in all aspects of vegetable production including propagation, field production, high tunnel management, harvesting, washing/packing, marketing, and employee supervision. Skills/responsibilities include: Able to lift 50 pounds and spend extended time bent over and kneeling for harvest Work well with a team and demonstrate strong leadership skills Communicate effectively with crew and with the owner Able to work long hours in all kinds of weather. Able to commit to the full season of March-November 1+ years of experience in vegetable production required
Meals: Compensation also includes access to abundant fresh vegetables from the farm.
Stipend: Expect to work 45-50 hrs per week. Pay range is $12–$15/hr depending on experience. Compensation also includes access to abundant fresh vegetables from the farm.
