Internship informationGeneral Farm Description: Carversville Farm Foundation (CFF) is a non-profit farm that combines ecological regeneration and agricultural production to serve our environment as well as our community. We currently distribute our farm products to soup kitchens and food pantries in the greater Philadelphia area to help improve access to wholesome, locally grown foods. CFF also sells some of its products. We are in the early stages of creating a diversified farm with intensive cover cropping, grazing, hay, vegetable, poultry and mushroom production. We grow year round in two high tunnels and produce all of our seedlings in our greenhouse. Our produce is washed and packed in a new facility on the farm that follows food safety protocols.

Seasonal Vegetable Production Farmer – 3 positions open
The seasonal vegetable production farmer will join a dedicated team of farmers to participate in raising vegetables from seed to harvest. We have over 12 acres in production, two high tunnels for year round production and a new wash and packing facility. We use cultivating tractors, water wheel transplanters, root harvesters and other equipment that helps us remain efficient. Cover cropping, soil tests and a fertility program helps keep our soils healthy and balanced. We are striving to create the most healthful food we can donate to those in need.
Seasonal Livestock Farmer – 3 positions open
The seasonal livestock farmer will join a dedicated team of farmers to take care of all of our pasture based livestock needs. We raise beef cattle, laying hens, turkeys, broiler chickens and have several goats for hedge row maintenance. There will be daily chores of collecting eggs, moving fences according to our rotational grazing plan, feeding and watering all species while remaining observant to the animals’ needs. We are looking for skilled and dedicated livestock farmers that care for the animals and health of the land. We are striving to create the most healthful food we can donate to those in need.
Educational Opportunities: Farmers will work 45 to 50 hours/week with our full-time farmers on every aspect of production, and will also have the opportunity to attend workshops off the farm to support their professional development in organic agriculture.

Applicants should possess the ability and desire to work hard in both an independent and diverse team setting, often in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift up to 40lbs. Must have a valid driver’s license. Ability to complete all field work tasks, and a willingness to be flexible team players and contribute wherever needed throughout the season; willingness and desire to work until the job is done, working overtime if necessary throughout the peak of the season. Previous farm experience is a plus. Applicants should also have the self-motivation to strive towards completing tasks quickly and efficiently. Good people skills and the willingness to work with volunteers are important. We’re seeking people who are reliable, organized, enthusiastic, have good communication skills and an attention to detail, and have an eagerness to learn the principles of organic farming.
