Internship information
General Farm Description: The vegetable operation on Clagett Farm includes a 270-member CSA, as well as substantial outreach to low-income families in the D.C. area (almost half of our harvest). The vegetables are raised on 20 acres of this 285-acre farm owned by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Paid staff are involved in all aspects of production, including directing volunteer groups and people who work for their produce. We've been privileged to train the most marginalized beginning farmers in the DC area--queer, black, second-career, female, shy, deaf, immigrant and outrageous. Anyone open-minded, respectful and motivated is welcome here. That includes you.

CRAFT Member Farm? Yes

Internship Starts: 4/1/2018
Internship Ends: 11/20/2018
Number of Internship Available: 2
Application Deadline: We begin interviewing each spring around February.
Minimum Length of Stay: 6 months

Internship Details:

Full-time and part-time positions are available each spring, and we rarely have openings in mid-summer. Be prepared for demanding physical labor in the heat and humidity of summer days. Endurance is more critical than brute strength. “

Educational Opportunities: We prefer if our crew can each get experience in all aspects of harvesting, distribution, planting, weeding and a little tractor work. We also encourage farm visits with Future Harvest and CRAFT.

Skills Desired: No experience is necessary, but we give preference to those who have volunteered or worked with us in the past, people with other farm experience, or people who have been successful in fast-paced, physical work, such as waiting tables. We are an equal opportunity employer.

Meals: none provided

Stipend: $11.50/hour the 1st year, $13/hr the 2nd, up to $15/hr the 4th

Housing: No housing provided. We are a few miles from DC, so most of our summer crew live in or near the city and commute by car.

Preferred method of Contact: Serious applicants should send a resume and letter of interest by email, or call to schedule a visit.
