General Farm Description: **To apply, please go to https://dicotfarm.com/work-with-us/ and follow the instructions for submitting the application form and emailing your resume.** Dicot Farm, a small, sustainable Certified Organic vegetable farm in Waldorf, MD, is looking for team members for our sixth growing season in 2020. We grow seasonal vegetable crops on about 2 acres, including two 3,000 square foot high tunnels, and manage 3-4 acres of soil-building cover crops. Internship Details:
We’re looking for enthusiastic team members who are interested in Organic and sustainable farming methods to support all aspects of the work of our farm (greenhouse work, fertilizing/bed prep, planting, harvesting, washing/packing, pest management, weed management, irrigation, tractor work, etc.). Positions are full-time Tuesday through Saturday (40+ hours/week). Ideal candidates will be able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, but also be comfortable with completing routine tasks. Team members will spend the majority of time on the farm in Waldorf but may also assist at our farmers markets and/or CSA pickups.
Educational Opportunities: We take time to ensure all team members understand farm tasks and systems, are continuously learning new farm jobs and helping to improve them. Farm team members are also welcome to attend regional workshops, field days, etc. (e.g., Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (CRAFT) tours, Future Harvest CASA field days).
Skills Desired: Applicants should: Be enthusiastic and flexible, and have strong work ethic; Be legally able to work in the United States; Be able to work 5 full days a week; Be able to complete manual labor (sitting, bending, and lifting and/or moving items weighing up to 50 lbs); Be able to work outdoors in extreme hot or cold for extended periods of time; Have own transportation to get to and from farm in Waldorf (the farm is NOT DC Metro accessible – check directions to 13355 Poplar Hill Rd, Waldorf, MD, before applying to ensure you can get here); Have demonstrated interest in sustainable vegetable farming; Have relevant past experience (e.g., gardening, farming, manual labor)
Meals: One farm lunch a week and unlimited snacks are provided, plus a weekly supply of vegetables.
Stipend: Team members receive $11.00-$14.00/hr (depending on experience), workers compensation insurance, 40 hours paid time off (if commit to full season of full-time work), and receive a weekly supply of vegetables
Housing: Housing on-farm is not available, but we are able to offer assistance finding housing in the region if needed.
