Internship information
General Farm Description: We are a no till farm in the Cascade foothills located near Lacomb, OR. A working homestead is situated in the middle of our property. We have a year round creek flowing through our property. In addition to no-till we use ecologically based Agroforestry practices. Some say this is another name for Permaculture. Currently we are restoring an abandoned orchard, developing hiking trails and recreation sites, along with producing a diverse pasture based meat selection for our local customer base. Our property is a Sanctuary; It is fully Naturist friendly- meaning in addition to being eco-minded we take this a step further and enjoy being nude often while we work and relax. Our property is a sober one- natural highs only. Our diet consists generally of Paleo friendly food. Our diet is always in line with Weston Price foods: this means a religious use of traditional fats, wild caught seafoods, pastured meats, organ meats, and fresh local veggies.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
Internship/Agroforestry student will learn by doing at our farm. A short term lease arrangement will be worked out. The student will designate an area of interest, and focus in on a complementary farm enterprise that they will startup and run themselves. We will provide some level of mentorship, but not as much as would be provided to a brand new farmer or new employee. Really we will be farming together and focusing in on our own enterprises while sharing land, experience and resources. We expect that you have worked on several farms before or are a very rambunctious self taught type! We are willing to provide a stepping stone to stepping out and buying your own land somewhere.
This is NOT A PAID JOB. It is a transition learning period between working for someone else on a farm and going out and buying your own land to start your own farm. A halfway house if you will for those recovering from not being able to grow their own food! You will be a farming student doing upper level applied work that is largely self directed. We provide the land and a bit of experience to nudge you along. You provide: the initiative, the creativity, the hard work, the risk (some of it we share too), and an enterprising nature!
Educational Opportunities: Learn in the "safe harbor" of our farm. You will take on your own farming enterprise. We will negotiate a simple lease arrangement with you. We will mentor you and find additional mentors for you if needed. But the eco-farming enterprises that you take on WILL BE YOUR OWN. Some examples of farm enterprises are: beekeeping, dairy development, non-timber forest products, grazing animals, recreation mgmt, and marketing improvements. The only limit is your imagination. But you have to make it profitable. So use your creativity and approach us with a compatible Agroforestry enterprise that you would like to take on this season. We would love to discuss it with you over dinner at our farm. We'd Love to meet you!
Skills Desired: An eagerness and dedication to learn all things Natural Farming, Homesteading, No till, Agroforestry, Permaculture, Naturist, Nutrient Density, Paleo, Weston Price, and Beyond! If you have never worked at a farm before, it would probably be a good idea for you to do some paid work at several other farms before applying to us. Also read some farming books like "Restoration Agriculture" by Mark Shepherd, You Can Farm by Joel Salatin, and "Dirt to Soil" by Gabe Brown to get a good background to start with. Outside of the eco-farming part, know how to run a business, because that is what you will be doing at our land and in your future career.
