General Farm Description: Feeding Crane Farm is located in the rolling oak woodlands at the base of Pilot Peak in Penn Valley. The farm is surrounded by open range lands, and wild woodlands that support abundant wildlife. We are about 15 to 20 minutes from Grass Valley and Nevada City. We farm a diverse range of Certified Organic vegetables on approximately 9 acres for the people of Nevada County. Our delicious vegetables are sold to local restaurants, grocers, and farmers markets in Nevada County. Our goal is to produce beautiful, nutrient dense, and affordable produce for our community. Farm operations are divided between a 1 acre market garden, and eight acres devoted to larger scale production. All workers will gain experience in both areas.

Internship Details:

This is a seasonal farm employment position. As a member of our team you will be involved in every area of the farm from the greenhouse to the farmers markets. We seek to foster a hardworking (but fun) environment that will teach you the ins and outs of growing a diverse range of vegetables. We are happy to explain and show the financial side of farming, and to share our planning process and the agricultural nuts and bolts of our approach with all crew members. The work week is Monday through Friday (with an additional Saturday Market shift about once a month). We aim for 8 hour days. We prefer candidates with at least a year of farm related or outdoor labor experience.

Educational Opportunities: We are happy to explain everything we do. We also have an extensive farming library that is available to you for your use.

Skills Desired: Previous farm experience is ideal. Evidence of a strong work ethic and capacity to do outdoor labor is required. A clean driving record would be required to conduct deliveries.

Meals: No, but free access to our produce is a benefit of the job.

Stipend: All hours worked are paid at a rate above minimum wage. Wages are based on experience and abilities.
