General Farm Description: "Foggy Meadow Produce is located in Vermont's Lower Champlain Valley surrounded by a pleasant mix of meadows, pastures, ponds, and forested land. The farm operates on five acres and has numerous buildings, greenhouses, and other infrastructure. Foggy Meadow grows a wide variety of vegetables and herbs, and sells produce at farmers markets and area stores in three Vermont counties. Season extension and winter greens production have been a significant focus for the last several years. This is a successful, profitable 52-week per year small farming business that was established thirteen years ago and has been a proven model for aspiring farmers to learn the necessary skill to establish a farm business.

Internship Details:

“Interns will have the opportunity to work and become proficient at all aspects of a vegetable production system of this scale. This includes greenhouse seeding, seedling, and plug management, planting, transplanting, crop planning, the many aspects of weed management, soil nutrition, irrigation systems, harvesting and post harvest handling with an emphasis on food safety and a variety of other necessary skills.In addition, interns will have hands on experience with fall root crop production and storage, and planning, seeding and planting of all the leafy greens for winter greens production. Interns will attend at least one Farmers market each week. Interns are not allowed to bring any pets. All applicants must have a valid drivers license.”


Educational Opportunities: "This internship will have the greatest benefit for those who are interested in owning or managing a successful small vegetable farm business but should be a good experience for anyone who is interested in vegetable production. We have frequent discussions about farming practices, production systems management, nutrient management, weed and pest control, and any other aspect of small business management in general, and small farm management in particular. In addition to the hands-on learning and discussions at the farm, there are numerous workshops, seminars, and farm visits available throughout the season in Rutland County and beyond. I encourage attendance at these events and make time available for interns to attend."

Skills Desired: "Applicants will need to have a keen desire to learn while performing tasks typical of a small vegetable farm business in a variety of weather conditions. Good health, fitness and the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs is necessary, along with the willingness and ability to work as part of a team. We will consider anyone who is ready and eager to have a great learning experience here at Foggy Meadow this season."

Meals: Any vegetables produced on the farm are available for meals.

Stipend: $850.00 per month with a substantial season end bonus to those who complete the agreed internship.

Housing: "Fully furnished house off-site with a full kitchen, washer, wi-fi, several bedrooms, large porch and a 1 1/2 acre yard.
