General Farm Description: Biointensive Vegetable Farm - Direct Sales at Farmers Markets and Restaurant Deliveries Our lease is approximately 2 acres including hoop house at the Headwaters Farm Incubator program in Orient, OR where we biointensively grow over 300 crop varieties for 3 farmers markets; St Johns Farmers Market, Montavilla Farmers Market, and Portland Farmers Market PSU, plus direct sales to local restaurants.

Vegetable Production, Market Sales, and/or Restaurant Deliveries

Farm and Market Positions
We are currently hiring two part-time (24 to 30 hours a week each) positions for the 2019 season. These are seasonal positions, but we can guarantee work for 10 months out of the year. The farmwork pay is $12 to $14 per hour depending on experience, restaurant deliveries pay is $16 per hour, and market sales pay is $16 to $20 per hour also depending on skillset and experience. Experienced farm workers and market salespeople are encouraged to apply

Schedule: During peak growing season work days run Thursday through Monday, but can be divided between 2 positions with flexibility for both workers to divide days, except Saturdays are required for both positions. Positions require 8-hour fieldwork days with options to work longer hours and market sales require up to 10-hour work days on weekends.

Positions Duties: Owner will tailor fit the following responsibilities between 2 positions to individually suit each farmworkers schedules and skillsets including:

• Seeding and maintaining propagation trays
• Monitoring germination chamber and hoop house
• Transplanting starts
• Driptape irrigation installation
• Trellising and pruning climbing vines
• Crop nutrient management
• Row cover and cloche tunnel pest prevention
• Weed prevention with silage covers
• Minimal manual weeding
• Harvesting by hand and with pruners and knives
• Produce washing and bagging
• Restaurant orders and market crop pack-out
• Market setup and sales
• Market load-up and unload
• Restaurant deliveries (bonus for worker with van, large SUV or covered pickup)
• Pressure wash cleanup of bins and crates

Skills Desired: Requirements and Skills: 
 • Reliable transportation to farm and markets • Capable of work in all weather conditions especially summer heat and cusp season rain • Fitness and strength, including the ability to lift up to 60lbs. frequently throughout the day and engage in repetitive physical tasks • Takes fieldwork directions with attention to detail and makes decisions while independently working as efficiently as possible • Self-driven to increase speed in production tasks such as transplanting starts, washing produce, and bin and crate cleanup • Interest in maximizing market sales by friendly engaging all potential customers in sharing enjoyment and knowledge of crops • Fast operation of market cash till, square card transactions, and scale weights while helping multiple customers at once • Attention to market aesthetics in quickly restocking and maintaining produce displays • Commercial vegetable farming or market sales experience strongly preferred • Strong appreciation for farming and interest in developing career in vegetable production
