General Farm Description: Green Jeans Market Farm is a organic vegetable farm. Farming on leased land that is in transition from one generation of farmers to another, Green Jeans Market Farm markets primarly in farmers' markets in our area. We have also doubled our wholesale market for the coming season and are steadily growing our restaurant customers. Green Jeans Market Farm is a farm that is working on being a sustainable farm that rebuilds the soil each year and makes it better for the future farmers that may use this land. Internship Details:
Team member will help with all aspects of a growing for market farm. Including: seeding, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting and going to market as the farm requires. Each intern will have two days off a week to rest and enjoy the area and the beautiful summers in Saratoga Springs. Interns will generally do at least one market each week, and work both indepently and with the farmer. Interns will receive special opportunities to complete larger projects regarding infrastructure, such as high tunnel building and maintenance, irrigation set up an more.
Educational Opportunities: Green Jeans Market Farm is starting it's third season. Unlike many well established farms Green Jeans Market Farm offers an opportunity for a gardner/grower to see what it means to start a farm. As an intern you will see the challenges facing you as you begin your own journey as a producer of organic healthy food, where you will learn to grown sustainably for your community.
Skills Desired: Looking for beginning to experienced interns. Applicants with more experience will receive more pay and responsibilities. We are willing to work and learn together with growers of all experiences and backgrounds.
Meals: Veggies are provided, and occasional meals with family, at least one a week will also be offered.
Stipend: Yes, this will be a paid internship. Pay will be based on experience.
Housing: Housing is negotiable. The right person(s) may be a good fit for living in the family home, there are other opportunities to live on the farm in a camper or other temporary lodgings, and nearby in Saratoga Springs.
