General Farm Description: Established in 2010, Green Wagon Farm grows 10 acres of certified organic vegetables year-round just outside Grand Rapids, MI. With a crew of 6 full time employees that doubles in the summer, we grow for a 350 member CSA program, the community at the Fulton Street Farmers Market, and for nearby restaurants and grocery stores. Internship Details:
The Harvest Manager is responsible for working daily with several harvesters to complete harvest for CSA, wholesale, and market. They manage all aspects of the harvest from making projections on what is available, to preparing harvest lists, recording harvest records and communicating with the Wash/Pack Manager to ensure orders are prepared and delivered to the appropriate outlets. Pay starts at $15/hr and is based on experience. Annual raises can be expected as well as free vegetables and a daily provided lunch. Looking for someone to start immediately to train under the current manager as they transition out.
Duties
Train employees on harvesting each crop
Prepare harvest list, including managing the projections for CSA, market and wholesale orders
Update online inventories (Shopify, Farmigo) and manage cooler inventory
Ensure all crops are harvested on time and meet quality standards for each market
Work in the field with employees daily, ensuring quality, accuracy, and efficiency
Organize harvest events for large harvests with the Field Manager, using equipment if necessary
Communicate with wholesale accounts to answer any questions and take orders
Run the wash pack when the Wash Pack Manager is unavailable
Food Safety Plan – train and implement as necessary
Communicate with Field Manager about crop quality
Qualifications
Experience: at least 2 years on a vegetable CSA farm
Ability to manage several employees daily
FSMA understanding a plus
