Internship information
General Farm Description: "We are creating a 250 acre diversified farm in the Harlem Valley which will be a center for rural and agrarian learning. Our mission is to create a place where people can have transformational learning experiences grounded in shared work and shared food. The homestead is centered on a beautiful working farm bordered by forested hills, pasture, a renowned trout river, and the Appalachian trail. Our agricultural production will be integrated with our educational workshops, programs, food served on site, farm stays, retreats, and events. Our farm will include livestock on pasture and organic vegetables, berries, fruits, flowers, maple syrup, honey, mushrooms and more. We are entering our third year on the land while expanding and developing our current agricultural operations which include our beef herd, a small, intensively managed veggie garden and mushroom production. We will be introducing medicinal herbs, bees, perennial plantings, improving farm infrastructure and more over the next few months. We may also host educational opportunities for people to come and learn from us while we establish new systems. During 2018 we will be undergoing significant restoration on the farm. We are looking for people that can be flexible and adaptive in the midst of a great deal of movement and change. Clear, skilled communication is very important. There will often be multiple projects needing attention, and we are looking for people who are emotionally and organizationally agile in navigating through complexity with our team. This is a farm and a start up business. If you are looking to learn from an established working farm, with slick systems already in place, this is not that. However, this is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain diverse experience with aspects of starting farm systems and business from the ground up. We are learning a lot, and so will you. "
