Internship Details:
Ivy Creek Family Farm seeks one additional lead farmer and one additional assistant farmer to join our team in 2022. At Ivy Creek, we work together to grow top-quality seasonal vegetables, small fruits, and flowers using sustainable and organic practices. Ivy Creek is a great place to build and sharpen farming skills. We hope applicants will have a few years of experience working in physically demanding outdoor jobs or a season or two of experience farming. Lead farmers should have two-five years of farming experience. Farmers will participate in all aspects of the farm including field and bed prep, plant propagation, planting, harvest, irrigation, plant care, post-harvest, cultivation, and sales. Farmers will have opportunities to take on leadership roles in irrigation, prop house work, low and high tunnel production, market sales, shiitake mushrooms, wash shed management, flowers and more. We farm 6 acres of field crops with intensive, sustainable philosophies. Our 2022 crew will consist of the farm owners, two assistant or lead farmers, one market sales and wash shed staff member, and one field manager. We will farm five full days a week, with occasional weekend duties as well. Farmers have access to our Vegetable Guide which outlines how to grow each of our crops from seed to sale. We teach through our extensive and carefully crafted guides along with workshops and hands-on lessons.
Educational Opportunities: Staff have the opportunity to attend monthly craft workshops organized by the Organic Grower's School. We also lead the crew in educational farm walks and provide farm manuals on subjects that interest individuals. Ivy Creek has developed planting plans, field plans, and an extensive vegetable guide that staff learn from and use on a daily basis.
Skills Desired: Assistant Farmers: Assistant Farmers should have experience working in physically demanding outdoor jobs or at least one full season of farming experience. Applicants should be able to comfortably work outside in all types of weather doing physical tasks for long periods of time, usually at a rapid pace. We seek dedicated applicants who have a genuine interest in growing vegetables and who are good observers. In the height of the season we work 10-11 hour days. Lead Farmers should have all of the above, plus at least two years of experience farming full time on a for-profit diversified vegetable farm.
Meals: No. But we provide lots of farm veggies!
