General Farm Description: Our farm is located in a beautiful, small town in Western Massachusetts. We own over 400 acres of land surrounded by woods and farmland. If you like quiet and the outdoors, this is the place for you. We are within a 40 minutes to 1 hour drive of Springfield, Northampton, and Great Barrington, MA. Hiking, biking and fishing opportunities out your back door abound

Internship Details:

Farm manager – maple farm Western Massachusetts

Our medium size (5500 taps) maple farm needs a full time manager. Long days in the woods in winter conditions required. Suitable candidate must be in good physical shape, be able to walk long distances, carry a heavy backpack and be able to lift 50+ pounds. Responsibilities include tapping trees, monitoring sap collection, and syrup production. Ability to use a chainsaw and other heavy equipment desirable. If you love being outside, this is a great job for you. This is a hard and physically demanding job with a mellow atmosphere and an emphasis on inclusion and fun. A typical day starts at 8 am to collect sap. Walking in the woods for several hours, checking tubing and taps, is a daily occurrence. Cleaning tanks, stacking wood, and general farm chores are also daily activities. During peak syruping a work day can last up to 12 hours. The ideal manager will have a positive attitude, a love for the outdoors, attention to detail and be able to work independently. On site housing is available for the right person. Our small farm is expanding and this is an ideal job for someone that wants to grow with our farm and share our vision of creating sustainable, healthy food from the land. Must be able to start work in January, but ideal candidate can start mid-October. Salary commensurate with experience. We are an equal opportunity employer.
