Assistant Manager
LHF is seeking applicants for an assistant farm manager. This individual would work with the farm manager to develop and implement strategies for vegetable and livestock production to serve LHF’s CSA and off-site markets. Specific duties would be determined upon a conversation with the farm manager during the hiring process, based on the applicant’s fields of interest and experience. This position is full time starting in March and continuing through November, with the possibility of part time work over the winter based on performance and willingness to continue with the farm. Expect 40-50 hours per week during peak season, with shorter weeks towards the beginning and end of the season.
Possible duties could include, but are not limited to-
Propagation of transplants and direct seeded crops
Pest/ disease/weed monitoring and control
Fertility monitoring and fertilization
Tractor Work (tillage, bed preparation, weed control, mowing, tractor maintenance)
Poultry Work (rearing of chicks, pasturing layers and broilers, daily feeding and egg collection, processing)
General maintenance of farm infrastructure
Experience and prior skills greatly appreciated include-
Some tractor operating experience
Ability to organize and supervise a harvest crew
High quality control standards
An ability to think independently and follow directions
Excellent communication skills
An interest in and enthusiasm for learning more about organic vegetable growing practices
An ability to work well with others and with a strong work ethic. A sense of humor is always useful!
An ability to lift 50 pounds
A valid driver’s license and a willingness to sometimes drive farm delivery vehicles
Reliable transportation to and from the farm
Greenhouse experience a plus
Compensation-
$15 per hour
Weekly produce and egg allotment
Additional compensation based on performance
