Internship informationGeneral Farm Description: Diversified Regenerative Family Farm specializing in Hemp (CBD), Perennials, Heritage Livestock and Agroforestry. Our 40 acre farm is half forested and half pasture/cultivated land. In addition to farming and ranching we manage our forests with intentional fire and thinning for ecosystem health and harvesting firewood. We have been farming and building infrastructure on this land for 5 years, using organic and regenerative methods. Shandin and Dove have been farming together since 2007 and are skilled and patient mentors. We are located in the beautiful Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon, home to a wide variety of organic, regenerative small and medium scale farms and ranches. We have a thriving local foods scene and great access to outdoor adventures of all sorts. We also have 2 school aged children who are actively involved in our farm life and are currently homeschooled. See our website www.madronaherbs.com for a few pictures of the farm (though they are a bit dated).

Seasonal farming, ranch and agroforestry helper. We ask you work on a regular schedule averaging 6-8 hours a day, 5 days a week. You can schedule 2 weeks off during the summer months. See “educational opportunities” for a list of types of work involved.
Educational Opportunities: Interns will have the opportunity to learn many valuable farming and ranching skills, which may include: building permanent raised beds, irrigation , fence construction, fuel reduction, burning, timber harvest, all stages of hemp cultivation, harvest and processing, and much more. Although we will not offer formal off farm educational opportunities we can introduce you to other farms of interest and to various opportunities in the area.
Skills Desired: Seeking enthusiastic folks who are dedicated to learning the daily skills of building and managing a small scale farm and ranch. Potential candidates should have 2 years or more experience working or living on a farm or ranch and should know this is their path in life. This internship is not for someone who is trying to figure out what they want to do in life: as frankly the skills involved take full dedication and years of learning and it would be a waste of your time and ours to go down this path together without a lifetime commitment. Strength, endurance and a positive disposition are essential qualities. The more ready you are mentally and physically to learn the more you will learn. General mechanical skills are a huge plus. Experience using most hand tools is also helpful. Above all an attitude of humility and a deep love for the land, plants and animals is essential. Candidates must have their own vehicle, be mature and self sufficient in providing for their needs. Priority will be given to a couple, but please apply as an individual as well if this opportunity seems like a good fit.
Meals: We will provide eggs, meat and possibly milk if available. Interns are responsible for all of their own food preparation.
Stipend: $500/month plus a bonus of $500 for a successful internship upon completion on Sept 30th, 2021.
Housing: Yes, a shared Hunter's Tent on a platform, with a wood stove, and a kitchen and bath setup.
