Internship information
General Farm Description: Midori Farm is a 29 acre certified organic vegetable farm located in Quilcene, Washington on the verdant north Olympic peninsula. We grow high quality organic vegetables, garden seedlings, seeds and craft our own traditionally fermented sauerkraut and kimchi from farm grown produce. Our produce and products are available at select locations in Western Washington. The farm is nestled in the Quilcene valley which was created by the Little and Big Quilcene rivers flowing from the Olympic Mountains into pristine Quilcene Bay. This confluence has created a deep and fertile sandy clay loam soil ideal for raising crops. We are committed to ecologically sound growing practices that enrich the land and hopefully our greater community. The tools of close observation, attention to detail and willful effort help us towards our goal of working with natural systems to grow delicious and nutritious food. We increase soil fertility using time tested organic techniques such as making compost, growing cover crops and practicing crop rotation to minimize insect and disease competition. Occasionally we purchase certified organic inputs to insure healthy and vital crops. One of our greatest allies and biggest challenges is a woven polyester fabric that we cover some crops with to provide protection from damaging insects. This 2020 season we will grow approximately 10 acres of vegetables and 5 acres of soil-building cover crops. We use a combination of human and tractor power. While we have been in business for 12 years, this is only our 7th growing season on our new property, so we are continually building new infrastructure and refining our systems.
