General Farm Description: "Our farm is located on a 900-acre nature preserve (10 miles of hiking trails, multiple ponds, etc.) 10 minutes from Harpers Ferry, WV. We cultivate 4 acres of Certified Organic vegetables with particular attention paid to soil health. We raise laying hens and a few batches of broilers each year, as well as a small herd of goats and heritage pigs. We attend 3 weekly farmers markets in DC and sell to restaurants. Our farm is an active member of Chesapeake CRAFT and we also host other educational opportunities on our farm during the season."

Internship Details:

“Work will involve all aspects of running a small scale, direct market organic farm. We work 5-6 days a week and attend market during the week and on the weekends. In addition, the crew will be expected to be involved in all areas of animal husbandry. We are open to sharing all that we know. We expect hard work, attention to detail, diligence, flexibility, and the desire to learn.”


Educational Opportunities: There will be many opportunities for farm tours and interactions with other local farms. We are members of Chesapeake CRAFT. We also host farm and non-farm events at Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship.

Skills Desired: "**Must have at least one full season experience working on a production vegetable farm** We look for organized, flexible, reliable, trustworthy people, with a commitment to farming and/or an interest in starting their own farms someday. Preference given to applicants interested in staying on for multiple seasons. Interested applicants should be enthusiastic about local organic agriculture, be energetic, be able to work outdoors in any weather condition, be self-motivated, work well with a crew and independently, and have excellent quality control while working quickly and efficiently. "

Meals: "Meals will be on your own although we have alot of potlucks. You are welcome to any farm produce, eggs, dairy, or trading with other farms at market. "

Stipend: "Starts at $1200/ month, plus end-of-season bonus and nice on-farm housing"

Housing: "Housing is in cabins on-site with access to indoor kitchen, bathroom, internet, library, etc in adjacent building."
