Internship information
General Farm Description: NewStoryFarm is about reconnection...about rediscovery, rethinking, reskilling, restoration, regeneration, responsibility, rebuilding and resilience. So what's the story with New Story Farm? Well, it's a farm whose caretakers are working to enact just that…a new story! We believe that virtually all of the problems that come with civilisation stem from people believing the predominant cultural story which says we are "above" or "separate" from nature. This story that is omnipresent in our culture tells us that the natural laws of nature are not applicable to us. A "story" is a scenario interrelating man, the world, and the gods."To enact" is to live so as to make a story a reality. "Culture" is a people enacting a story. If you believe that the world belongs to man, you will see all other life as a resource. If you believe that man belongs to the world, you see all other life as partners. On our farm, we are surrounded by annual agriculture and although we grew up eating from this system and have gratitude for that, we also see that annual agriculture is intrinsically unsustainable. Even at it's best, it is extractive and erosive, leading in time to desertification. We want to enact a new story that puts humans back in partnership with all other creation and are working hard at recreating perennial systems that will not only allow us to feed ourselves and our human community, but our broader community of beings is benefitting as well by biomass and more diversity. Starting in 2015, we are going to be hosting workshops on things such as whole farm water design, composting toilets and greywater systems, perennial foraging, medicinal herbs and tinctures, fermenting and preserving, smoking and preserving meats, how to kill and butcher your own animals, etc. We realise what the world needs right now is not another farm selling food to people, we need to teach people to produce their own food in an honest and sustainable way. If you're of the belief that the current trajectory of human civilisation could be better, come join us in co-creating a better way of living in this world.

We rotate cows and pigs on pasture while fostering perennial fruit and nut silvopasture. Our methods are holistic and herbal and we believe having a close relationship with our animals is part of good holistic care. The animals here are friendly and very easy to work with. We grow a lot of our food and medicine here on the land while working non-farm-related jobs.

Currently, we are seeking a veggie or nursery grower. There is a 32×70 high tunnel for your use along with water systems and a pack shed. We have all sorts of equipment that we could use to help cultivate and prepare beds for you. All you need is the experience and drive to start your own business.
