General Farm Description: Along with his wife Aimee, Jeremy McAdams runs Northwood Mushrooms (aka Cherry Tree House Mushrooms), a farm northeast of the Twin Cities that grows log-grown shiitake and other culinary and medicinal mushrooms and mushroom products for markets, restaurants, vegetable CSAs, and stores in the Twin Cities and the upper midwest.

Internship Details:

The work: assist Farm-founder Jeremy McAdams with packaging and processing mushrooms, while also helping production team with mushroom picking.

Hours/duration: position is year-round, full time – 40 to 50 hours per week – in the summer, 25 to 40 hours per week in the winter. Workers are generally expected to work at least one day each weekend – especially in the summer.

Stipend: $13 per hour if you live on the farm, $16 per hour if you do not. Housing is in our farmhouse or in our bunkhouse; there is a shared bathroom and kitchen in the farmhouse. You’ll also have use of kitchen equipment and a few food staples like oil and salt, and of course mushrooms!

The Team: Summer teams are up to two or three full-time members, in addition to Jeremy and Aimee.

Work Location: We have a beautiful 38 acre farm at 827 15th St., Clayton, WI 54004, about an hour and a half from the Twin Cities.

Educational Opportunities: Learn about mushroom log cultivation on a fairly big scale, but also about in-ground and indoor block mushroom cultivation!

Skills Desired: Selection Criteria: Previous general farming or kitchen experience desirable, as well as speed, organizational ability, attention to detail, endurance, ability to work well with others.

Meals: In general we do not provide meals for this position, but we generally share a weekly farm meal.

Stipend: Stipend for this position is either $15 per hour plus housing (if you live on the farm) or $18 per hour (if you live off the farm). Free mushrooms and discounts on other farm products are also available. Living on the farm includes a private room, all utilities, plus internet, and use of the farm house kitchen.

Housing: Yes, housing is available. We have a few rooms, either in our farmhouse or in our bunkhouse; there is a shared bathroom and kitchen in the farmhouse. You’ll also have use of kitchen equipment and a few food staples like oil and salt, and of course mushrooms!
