Get real world experience organic farming at Odiyan Buddhist retreat center in rural Sonoma county, CA. Learn practical skills from our master gardeners at our 2.5 acre organic community gardens, orchards, greenhouses. Your farming education will include discussions, classes, and field trips to other working organic farms. Be part of the process from seed to plate as you learn to cook vegetarian meals from your own produce to help feed our community.
You will receive room and all vegetarian meals, a living allowance for personal needs ($150 per month, $216 after one year), and opportunities for meditation, mantra, Buddhist practices, and classes.
Minimum commitment is through November, with the option to stay on for Winter gardening season.
Educational Opportunities: Organic gardening skills and theory will be taught, along with yoga and meditation classes. There are various study groups throughout the year. Also, field trips to other organic farms to study methods.
Skills Desired: We are looking for someone hard working and easy to get along with. Background in agriculture is appreciated but not required.
Meals: We cook three nutritious and delicious vegetarian meals a day for all community members, and everyone has 24 hour access to our fully stocked pantry and kitchen.
Stipend: We offer a stipend of $150 per month to cover living expenses such as phone bill or car insurance.
Housing: Yes, you will stay in your own nicely appointed room with communal kitchen and bathroom. You may have up to one roomate.
