General Farm Description: Oz Farm is an organic farm and retreat center which has operated for over 20 years on the banks of the Garcia River in Mendocino County, Ca. We grow vegetables and heirloom apples for local markets, restaurants, and our CSA program. We provide education in sustainable agriculture for beginning farmers. Internship Details:
Our apprenticeship is an educational, hands-on experience in small-scale organic agriculture. Minimum 35 hours per week of field work and occasional educational discussions and field trips. Extensive practice in agricultural skills, from planning and field preparation through planting, weeding, harvesting and marketing, with opportunities to delve more deeply into areas of interest. Expect a serious, production-focused work environment and lots of repetitive manual labor. Educational Opportunities: Weekly farm systems discussions, agricultural topic classes, or field trips to other local farms. The opportunity to pursue passion projects on the farm outside of the work week.
Skills Desired: Some farming experience preferred
Meals: Family-style dinner 5 nights/week. We cannot provide for special dietary needs.
Stipend: $300/month
Housing: Private 10×12 cabin with wood burning stove, running water, and small solar array. Access to the communal farm kitchen that is stocked with seasonal farm fresh produce and bulk food items (no meat or dairy), with outdoor shower and bathtub, large front and back porch, a lounge area with loft space for guests.
