General Farm Description: Our farm is an 80 acre organic farm on the North Fork of Long Island. We grow hundreds of different varieties of vegetables and we sell only direct to consumer via CSA, farmer's markets, and at our large bustling retail market on site. We have a certified organic kitchen which we make all value added items with our produce. We farm year round using unheated greenhouses and sell through a winter farmer's market. We are looking for enthusiastic and hardworking candidates for the 2021 season to work in our fields, at the farmstand and markets, and in our kitchen. We are passionate about farming organically because we believe in caring for the soil, the land, and our future generations.

FARMSTAND RETAIL APPRENTICE
Join our family farm and be part of a team committed to excellence in product, customer service and attention to detail. Seeking an apprentice interested in becoming a part of our dynamic and bustling farmstand retail operation. Desire to learn the marketing/sales side of a farm business as well as a CSA, farmer markets, farm kitchen and a growing home delivery business. Must be highly motivated to not only learn and work efficiently, but to sell our products to customers, create and finesse veggie displays, and be attentive to details.
Other skills required:
Inventory, stock and merchandise product
Trim, package and present fresh foods with attention to detail
Create samples and tastings with attractive displays and attention to health department codes.
Ability to initiate and work independently
Experience with shopkeep/ipad sales
Vegetable and plant knowledge helpful
Ability to handle crates of vegetables up to 30 lbs and willingness to work in all kinds of weather
Passion, and knowledge and willingness to teach others about organic farming, the environment, healthy eating and specifics about our farm’s history and growing methods.
Full Time 35-40 hours/week | 4 days including one weekend day


Educational Opportunities: Opportunities to meet other interns and see other local farms through local CRAFT meetings.

Skills Desired: Retail / sales/ customer service experience in any field. Interest in food and veggies a must!

Meals: no, but we have great veggies that we give our staff when available!

Stipend: We pay our employees by the hour. Long Island minimum wage is $14/hr. Pay based on experience!

Housing: No, but we have a few rooms available for singles with no pets across the street from the farm in a house with another long term employee. Cost is $600/month and depends on how well you fit with the other person living there.
