General Farm Description: Sapidus Farms is an owner operated oyster farm in the Northern Neck of Virginia. We spawn, raise, harvest, and sort oysters on the farm. We do all of our own distribution direct to consumer, restaurants, groceries, and farmers markets. There will be opportunities to gain experience in the different components of our business.

Internship Details:

We are looking for people with a positive attitude and an aptitude for learning. We love what we do and look forward to sharing it with others. The end goal for us is to find people that love oyster farming as much we do and would like to expand with our farm. This is a great opportunity to learn the trade and has the potential to turn into a full time position.

We want people to be happy here and would take into account the individual’s interest whether it is our hatchery program, nursery system, market oysters, cage building, marketing, or distribution. We value different perspectives and are open to working with the individual to find their dream job.

Educational Opportunities: The farm is run by a teacher turned farmer who still loves to teach. We also have a good relationship with VIMS ( Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences). Overall we encourage learning, and are happy to teach the individual every aspect of the farm from hatchery to distribution.

Skills Desired: Experience in aquaculture is great, but definitely not necessary. Heavy lifting is a big part of every aspect of our farm. Individuals must be able to lift 50 pounds or more on a regular basis. Please send us an email with work history and be prepared with work references.
