General Farm Description: Sassafras Creek Farm is a USDA certified-organic, highly diversified vegetable farm in Leonardtown, Maryland. We grow year-round 10 acres of vegetables including ½ acre of high tunnel production and 35 acres of cover crops. We use modern, scale-appropriate equipment, facilities and systems for production efficiencies and improve product quality. We are dedicated to producing exceptionally delicious organic foods, providing meaningful employment, and teaching employees about small scale sustainable farming. We take great pride in protecting our natural resources, serving our local community and operating a profitable farm business. We sell at a seasonal farmer’s market and year-round to natural food stores, farm-to-table restaurants and other farms’ CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) weekly produce subscriptions.CRAFT Member Farm? Internship Details:
Direct, Oversee and Assist:
o Pack shed: Wash, sort, grade, package and label produce; manage Inventory of stored produce; manage customer order process; and maintain order fulfillment records
o Green house: seeding crops, transplanting, watering, fertilizing, scouting for insects/disease and treatment, recordkeeping
o Field: Assess crops for health and harvest (e.g., size, quality, quantity); assist as-needed in field operations (see below)
o Monitor the completion of daily farm tasks
o Recordkeeping: Harvest, Inventory, Greenhouse, Customer Orders, etc.

o Plastic mulch laying & removal

Work Schedule
o Full-time seasonal (5 days/week; 8-9 hours/day)
o Saturday Farmers Market (end of Apr – Dec): 1 – 2 Saturdays / month
Educational Opportunities: o You will learn how to run a small-scale, mechanized, modern, year-round, diversified, profitable, certified organic vegetable farm
Skills Desired: Qualifications and Preferences o High School Diploma or GED required (Required) o 1 year or more of relevant experience in small-scale vegetable production (Required) o Focus on quality and attention-to-detail (Required) o Ability to work efficiently doing outdoor physical labor (Required) o Ability to lift and carry 50-lbs (Required) o Speak Spanish (Preferred) o Mechanical, carpentry and/or general maintenance skills (preferred)
