General Farm Description: Sogn Valley Farm is a diversified farm in the beautiful Sogn Valley region of Cannon Falls, MN. We produce a variety of certified organic vegetables on 30 acres, along with native transplants for prairie restoration.

What We Need: We seek an individual with a strong work ethic, passion for growing food while caring for the land, good communication skills, a cooperative nature, detail orientation, and a drive to solve problems and improve systems. The ability to work independently is essential given our small crew. We are looking for someone interested in multi-season involvement on our farm.

Primary Responsibilities:
The crew member works under the direction of the farm owner/manager and is involved with many aspects of farm operations. Tasks which the crew member may be asked to participate in include, but are not limited to:
Greenhouse work (seeding, watering, potting-up, monitoring, grafting)
Staffing plant sales
Transplanting (water wheel and by hand)
Crop maintenance, including weeding, trellising, pruning, irrigating, and end-of-season field clean-up (plastic mulch and trellis removal)
Harvesting and postharvest handling, including washing, sorting for quality, and packing.
Grounds and property maintenance (mowing, weedwhacking)

Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods, including bending, crouching/kneeling, and lifting & carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willingness to work outdoors under all weather conditions.
Additional Desirable Skills:
Undergraduate degree in horticulture, agronomy, plant science, natural resources, or similar field of study.
Prior vegetable farming experience
Prior experience with physical labor

Work Hours: 4 day work week, generally M-Th but flexible in case adverse weather requires a shift in work schedule. Start time is 7:00-8:30 am, depending on the time of year. Typically 40 hours/week.

Employment Status: This position is full-time, seasonal, April – October. Possible part-time work in November and December.

Educational Opportunities: Crew members will have the opportunity to obtain hands-on farming skills and learn about some of the scientific/ecological underpinnings of sustainable agriculture. We encourage our employees to be inquisitive as they work to ensure they understand not just the "what" but the "why"

Skills Desired: Prior vegetable farming experience is desirable but not required. We are looking for hard-working folks with good attitudes who are eager to learn.

Meals: Meals are on your own, but vegetables from the farm are provided.

Stipend: $14-16/hr, commensurate with experience

Housing: Free housing is available in one of our three on-farm cabins available, with access to a full-featured semi-outdoor kitchen with electricity, running water, and wireless internet access. There is an outhouse and outdoor shower adjacent to the employee kitchen, but indoor bathroom, shower, and laundry facilities are also available in the farmhouse, with direct access from outside.
