General Farm Description: Starbright Acres Farm is a micro farm located on three separate sites in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Foothills. There are 4 acres in cultivation with 30+ varieties of annual vegetables. Open Positions:
Farm Intern: 1-2 openings, 20-30 hrs wk, Feb-Oct, $15.50 hr + farm credit
Farm Crew: 1-2 openings, 30-35 hrs wk, Feb-Oct, $16-18 hr DOE + farm credit
Field Work Supervisor: 1 opening, 40 hrs wk, Feb-Oct $20 hr + farm credit
Requirements

o Current driver’s license and clean driving record

o Proof of Covid vaccination will be requested at time of hire.
Farm Internship Position
No experience needed. Entry level position. Minimum wage. $1.00 per hour farm produce credit. Housing is not included. Paychecks are issued biweekly. Must be able to take instruction from more experienced team members and learn quickly. Must be happy to jump in with both feet on any and all farm work activities with a positive attitude.
Farm Crew Job Description
Minimum two-years experience working on small vegetable farm. 30-35 hrs wk, Feb-Oct, $16-18 hr DOE + farm credit. $1.00 per hour farm produce credit. Housing is not included. Paychecks are issued biweekly. Starbright employees are passionate about farming and eager to participate in the hard work and joy of growing food for our community. All positions will share farm work duties and will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of farming tasks including but not limited to bed prep., seeding, propagating starts, potting up, transplanting, weeding, trellising, harvesting, washing, packing and selling over 30 crop varieties. Everyone takes turns preparing Friday farm lunch for the crew. Crew members must be reliable, timely, and willing to commit for at least one full season. Starbright employees exhibit a positive attitude, hard work ethic and team mentality. Must be able to work long, hard days in both hot sun and wet cold while bending, lifting, carrying loads of more than 50#, kneeling and walking for extended periods of time. First and foremost employees must be fast and efficient workers with internal drive and motivation. Employees will participate in selling at farmers markets and must be good with numbers and enjoy providing excellent customer service.
Field Work Supervisor Job Description
40 hrs wk, Feb-Oct $20 hr + $1.00 per hour farm produce credit. Housing is not included. Paychecks are issued biweekly. Must have experience working on diversified vegetable farm(s) and managing farm workers. Must have a thorough understanding of the expectations and operations of the farm. Must be observant and knowledgeable about the crops, systems and processes used at Starbright. Must be able to troubleshoot and solve problems.
Must be able to supervise and instruct other team members. Must be willing to take the lead and motivate the team. Must be able to notice, identify and communicate efficiencies and inefficiencies to others. Must be comfortable asking for help and advice. Should be the first to arrive and the last to leave. Will be responsible for thinking ahead to gather tools and supplies needed for the work to be done. Be safety minded and ensure the team is working safely. Responsible for caring for team members if there is an injury, illness or other concern. Must be willing to work until what needs to be done is done. Must be willing to be on call for urgent situations. (i.e. – major irrigation leak, shade structure collapse, orders that were missed or had a problem)
