Internship information
General Farm Description: Diversified Livestock Farm located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains of New York. Using sustainable agriculture methods, the farm raises and produces, lamb, goat, beef, pork, poultry, rabbits and eggs. The farm also produces value-added products to sell at urban farmers markets. Farm programs and workshops. Farm Stay.

Internship Details:

Paid Position. Housing provided. Responsibilities MAY include:
Feed cattle, hogs, chickens (broilers), laying hens, ducks, rabbits, goats, sheep, horses
Collect, clean and pack eggs
Milk goats for non commercial use
Build permanent fencing/Repair fencing
Barn or structure building and repair
Maintain and repair machinery
Slaughter poultry and rabbits
Livestock care such as shearing, trimming hooves, clipping, disbudding, lambing, kidding
Castrate bulls, feeder pigs
Pack for and possibly attend Saturday or Sunday farmers’ markets regionally and in NYC metro area
Feed and work with border collies and livestock guardian dogs
Assist with farm tours and programs such as Farmer for a Day
Plant, weed and harvest kitchen vegetable and herb gardens.
Clean up and organization of barns and farm area


Educational Opportunities: Experience all facets of the agricultural business, including production, management, marketing and value-added food processing. The internship provides education and experience in cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry and rabbits and agricultural methods such as grass-fed, non-certified organic, rotational grazing and sustainable farming. The internship allows the intern to interface with and educate the customer and the community through farmers markets, farm tours, on-farm programs, through Fable, our on-farm restaurant, and via our bed & breakfast and Farm Stay.

Skills Desired: Physically fit, responsible, enthusiastic. Creative thinking, problem solving, carpentry, veterinary, culinary, comfort with animals big and small, excellent social skills and ability to effectively communicate with customers a plus. Will train.

Meals: Lunch. Breakfast and dinner on your own. Provide eggs and other meat products from the farm.

Stipend: Salary $35 K includes pay raises, bonuses and 2 week vacation. 5 days November to April. 6 days April to November.

Housing: Private house located a few minutes from the farm. One bedroom with a loft bed. Utilities not included. Wifi enabled. Cell service. Ideal for one person or a couple (partners).
