Internship information
General Farm Description: Small family farm established in 2019 focusing on gourmet mushroom production and small scale mixed herbs, vegetables, and flowers. Mushrooms are primarily grown indoors to ensure consistent high quality harvests. Produce from the garden always has a focus on growing in a healthy living soil, and a diverse and balanced ecosystem. No toxic herbicides, fungicides or pesticides are used. Natural and regenerative farming practices are utilized. We are in a pretty rural area in south central PA. 2 hours north of DC, 2 hours west of Baltimore, 2 hours east of Pittsburg. Farm is 62 acres, along a small creek, more than half the farm is wooded. We only grow on less than .5 acre. The rest will eventually be used to raise animals with rotational grazing methods, but we are not there yet. Very quiet and peaceful.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Often a great time to listen to podcasts and audio books!
Position starts July/August. Going indefinitely for the right person/s. Grow with us; lots of opportunity. Minimum 3 month commitment preferred. Option to stay longer, with a pay raise, for good workers.
Intern/s will split time between indoor mushroom cultivation, outdoor gardens (utilizing beyond organic practices) and general farm maintenance. 20-30 hours per week on average. if we can afford it additional hours can be available, particularly as we look into next season.
No farming experience required, but interest in local high quality food is a must.
Omnivores welcome. We have laying hens to provide eggs. Mushrooms and produce is always available from the garden. Pasture raised meat from happy animals can be purchased as desired from our friends farm or other local farms.
Educational Opportunities: Nothing specific, but we have a great library of regenerative agriculture books, and you will learn a lot through working on the farm. Through working here you will learn all aspects of small scale indoor mushroom production. You will also learn a lot about maintaining a market scale garden, building soil health, and food preservation.
Skills Desired: No specific farm experience or skills are required. A general interest in producing and eating high quality food is a must. Construction skills are a great bonus, we have lots of infrastructure projects, especially going into fall and winter. Must be able to comfortably carry 50 lbs, work in the heat and in the cold.
