Internship information
General Farm Description: Tierra Vida Farm is a two acre farm committed to growing the most nutrient dense vegetables possible at the base of the San Juan Mountains. Soil health is essential for quality and production in the challenging mountain conditions of the Desert South West. Soil is the home for plants, it is where they get their food, water, and protection. Roots are not simply straws sucking water and nutrients from inert dirt. Roots form a living connection to an entire underground community of micro organisms that rely on plants to deliver energy from the sun through the roots and into the soil, feeding those micro-organisms.

Internship Details:

We are seeking an intern for the first half of the 2021 season (April – August) who will hopefully transition to a part-time, nearly year round, employee in October. We have decided to flatten our curve of production by adding one more large greenhouse to our operation. This will allow us to grow for 10 months of the year and offer employment for that entire time.

Qualified applicants will be detail oriented, have experience working outdoors in varying weather conditions, demonstrate the ability to maintain quality while moving quickly, be willing to receive feedback, and have the maturity to work unsupervised. Experience farming is helpful but not required. Due to the nature of farming, applicants must be physically capable of lifting 50 pounds and doing manual labor for 6 – 8 hours per day. Reliable transportation is a must. Seasonal housing (June – September) is negotiable.

Duties include: washing, packing, and labeling eggs (approximately 8 hours per week), harvesting, washing, and packing produce (approximately 8 hours per week), weeding, trellising, transplanting, etc. (approximately 8 hours per week). In the fall, you will also be trained to milk, feed, and water goats in preparation for the farm-sit during the winter.
