Internship Details:
We offer paid farm positions, as opposed to traditional apprenticeships or internships. While you will still learn a ton while working with us, this change puts a little more emphasis and expectation on the need for productivity (as opposed to simply education). This change is due to the success and increased demand for our produce. If you are interested in being a part of the field crew, managing our wash/pack house/CSA/or greenhouse production, please view our employment page on our website twobearfarm.com for complete job listings.
Educational Opportunities: Yes. While we prefer employees with previous experience and skills, you will learn all aspects of how we farm here in Montana. Everything from greenhouse management, High Tunnel crop production, planting, weeding, irrigation, harvest, and post-harvest handling. Season extension is a key to our success, so you will learn how and when we use it. You'll also be able to glean information on soil management, compost production, cover cropping, and business management. Regardless of your experience, we will work with you on a daily basis on every task assigned to you to ensure you have the tools needed to become proficient and confident in your role.
Skills Desired: Yes. We prefer to hire people who have worked on farms previously and are familiar with the work flow, pace, techniques, and tools of the trade. Tractor and BCS walk-behind tractor operation skills, as well as ability to drive manual transmission vehicles is helpful. Proven ability to focus on tasks while maintaining strong pace in a variety of weather is encouraged. Customer service skills and experience with farmer's market sales are both helpful.
Meals: We provide employees with access to farm produce, but we do not do group meals or provide any other food items.
Stipend: Yes. We offer paid positions for experienced hands starting at $15.75/hr.
Housing: Yes, we have 1 cabin on the farm that can house up to 2 employees, and can be rented at a subsidized price.
