Internship information
General Farm Description: We are a small family and run a small raw milk dairy (with Jersey cows) and hemp operation located in the foothills of Berthoud between Loveland and Longmont about 40 minutes north of Boulder. We love being a host farm and really enjoy helping folks learn about milking and all things it takes to run a small farm. Farm days are long, but fulfilling! One day we really hope to be able to make farming our full-time jobs. We are very excited to welcome interns into our farm and help you learn about the ups, downs and in-betweens of running a farm.

Internship Details:

Interns will be responsible for assisting and mostly running our small family farm. Although we are quite diversified in our endeavors, we focus in two main areas – raw dairy with our Jersey cows and our organic outdoor hemp operation. Interns will have an opportunity to do everything they feel comfortable participating in – including seasonal butchering of our chickens. Because of the dairy, butter-making is also a weekly duty on the farm that interns will learn. Interns should be quick learners with great attention to detail and consider themselves to be trustworthy managers as well so as to operate the farm once they’ve learned all the basics. Interns will work 5 days a week from approximately 7:30 until the work is done – please expect to work at least 40 hours each week – we are not a hobby farm and provide food to over 100 families along the front range. Nearly all meats consumed here on the farm are grown here!

Educational Opportunities: Interns will learn about operating a small family farm. Duties include milking and all thing concerning milking, animal husbandry, industrial hemp, fencing, construction, and much more!

Skills Desired: We are looking for anyone who wants to learn about farming and loves animals. We can teach the right person/people what they need to know. Please don't be afraid to apply even if you've never even seen a cow, or any other farm animal in person before. We've had such amazingly great experiences hosting myriad folks - some that had a lot of experience and many who have none. We are excited to meet you!

Meals: All food is provided for interns; however, convenience foods are not provided. Grains, eggs, dairy, and meats are all provided. We love to have communal meals when kid commitments allow. However, dinner is usually the only communal meal. It isn't possible for us at this time to provide specific high-fat/high-protein diets (keto, paleo) as we've discovered in the past the cost is prohibitive. However, if this is how you prefer to eat we would love to host you, just be prepared so supplement your diet with those foods.

Stipend: We provide food, housing and A LOT to learn in addition to a $300 per month stipend. The first month for all internships is a training period to make sure we're good fits for each other. Lengths of stay are also flexible, but we prefer folks to commit to 3 months at a minimum. We need help year round and would love to have an intern stay for a full year, but are happy to host folks for a shorter period of time too.

Housing: Shared quarters in a separate house with a connected bathroom.

Preferred method of Contact: Email or Phone
