General Farm Description: Winterberry Farm is hiring a farm assistant for the 2021 season. We are a small diversified certified organic family farm located in Belgrade, Maine (about 45 min from Portland). The farm consists of 40 acres: 15 acres in Mixed woods, 8 acres in pasture, for the flock of Romney sheep, 5 acres in production of vegetables and cut flowers including 4 all season 30x80 greenhouses. 80% of our farm is no till: Including perennial mixed berried, rhubarb and several herbs. We grow for our different cSA options, local farmers’ markets, and our farm store for value added production. We are a horse and oxen powered farm. And I am a women and started and continue to run Winterberry farm for the past 21 years. We host farm to table dinners and kids farm camp and other community based activities.

Internship Details:

We are looking for a sharp, passionate, efficient, hardworking and eager to learn farm assistant. The farm assistant will be responsible for helping out on all aspects of the farm. Their responsibilities will include but not be limited to assisting on greenhouse and field cut flower growing and vegetable season extending growing in greenhouses. Harvesting, cultivation, weeding, maintaining poultry, producing value added products, monitoring for pest and diseases and preparing flower bouquets. They will also possibly be responsible for setting up displays and manning the booth at farmers market weekly. And weekly set up and monitoring of the CSA area. And end of season final clean up of beds and planting garlic and flower bulbs.

Educational Opportunities: horse and oxen powered farm, women started and owned family farm, certified organic, csa farm 3 season, season extending greenhouses, flower farmer and floral designer for weddings, endless possibilities for learning.

Skills Desired: Skills and qualifications: * Must have at least prior farm experience, at the least 2 full seasons on a organic vegetable farm. * We are looking for a strong, healthy, motivated and eager individual who enjoys and can tolerate working outside in all weather conditions and takes immense pride in their work. * Can work efficiently independently and as part of a team * Organized and hardworking * Has experience interacting with the public, either in a customer service or educational setting * Ability to follow written and oral instructions and willingness to seek guidance as needed * clear communication skills * Mechanical inclinations as related to small machinery, irrigation and carpentry * Has an eye for detail, especially in regards to setting up displays and arranging flowers * basic computer and recordkeeping skills * Flexibility and a sense of humor * Ability to lift 50+ pounds * Valid driver’s license. * Compassionate caring human
