Herbster and Bayfield, Wisconsin
The Savanna Institute is presenting a day-long visit to two farms to learn about black currants in Wisconsin. This event is great for people who are thinking about growing currants and what cultivars would suit them best. Participants can attend the morning or afternoon session, or both. The morning features a visit to Elsewhere Farm to learn more about managing an integrated food forest system that includes a pear overstory and understory of elderberry, aronia, and highbush cranberry, and how the farmer incorporates grazing pigs. The tour will highlight the several varieties of currants grown her. In the afternoon, tour Highland Valley Farm to learn about their red and black currant operation: varieties to harvest.
