General Farm Description: "Our free-range chicken and CSA farm is located in a beautiful canyon on the Central Coast of California just miles from the ocean. We specialize in raising chickens humanely for eggs, as well as to sell to backyard chicken keepers. We build chicken coops and offer poultry supplies for those who are just getting started with chickens. We also run a local Community Supported Agriculture program that offers member shares to our organic garden. This position is to be a intern garden leader for the CSA and farm stand production. "

Internship Details:

“We are looking for someone to assist in the management of our CSA. You will be responsible for working with and delegating to our revolving team of WWOOFers, and HelpXers. Responsibilities include: Weeding, planting, trellising, pest control, permaculture design, harvesting, packing and delivering CSA boxes. Additional responsibilities can include, overall garden outlook, designing and implementing a farm stand, reducing overall garden waste, and community outreach. Opportunity for a full year position for 2018/2019 will be offered if it is mutually beneficial. Work is from 8 to 4:30 Monday through Friday with a few hours on the weekend to setup and break down the farm stand, which is located on the farm.”

Educational Opportunities: We are a small family farm that is in its' fourth year of producing for a CSA. You will have the opportunity to learn with us and gain as much knowledge as we have gathered so far. As we are a chicken farm you will have the opportunity to learn aspects of the raising chickens for meat and egg production. We also have a small herd of mini-nubians and a full workshop.

Skills Desired: "Basic garden knowledge. We will teach as much as possible, however, the more the experience the better. Hard working and a desire to learn are the basis of what we desire in an applicant. You MUST be able to live and work in a communal setting. We all live and work on the farm together. Sometimes in groups as large as 12-14 people. Drama or passive aggressiveness will NOT be tolerated. "

Meals: All meals will be provided with as much of it coming from the farm as possible. We have a sign up board for cooking dinners and we encourage everyone to eat dinner with each other to build community. Everyone is responsible for cleaning up after themselves.

Stipend: "$500 per month, increases available depending on productivity. "

Housing: "A private room in our WWOOF building, tiny house, or a yurt, depending on what is available when you arrive. You will have use of our home to cook meals, watch a movie, relax, and use Wi-Fi. Responsible, Law abiding adults with a valid driver's license may also use our vehicles to go to town and go on excursions. There is an indoor and outdoor shower and porta potties available. If you are in our house you are free to use the restroom in the house as well."
