Internship informationGeneral Farm Description: "Fair Valley Farm is a small, diversified livestock farm located about 7 miles west of downtown Eugene, OR. We raise pastured poultry for meat and eggs, pastured/forest-fed Berkshire hogs and grass-fed beef and lamb feeders. Most of our farming practices are modeled after Joel Salatin / Polyface Farm. We run a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and direct market our products to individuals and select restaurants and retailers in our community. "

“Weekly commitment is 5-6 days per week, for an average 30 hrs (we can offer some flexibility on schedule). <br>
Daily tasks will vary seasonally and according to the farm's needs but may include:<br>
– Animal feeding and watering<br>
– Daily moving of Joel Salatin style chicken tractors<br>
– Setting up electric fenced paddocks for cattle, sheep, hogs, chickens and turkeys<br>
– Collecting, washing and packing eggs<br>
– General landscaping maintenance (mowing, brush and weed control)<br>
– Permanent fencing and other construction projects<br>
– Weekly processing of chickens <br>
– Farm marketing activities including deliveries, assisting customers at our farmstand and/or farmer markets
Educational Opportunities: This is a great opportunity to learn what the "early years" of starting a diversified livestock farm business is like. You will learn lots about rotational grazing and particularly raising pastured meat chickens as that is a focus of our operation. <br><br> Potential year-round opportunities available depending on how the season goes.
Skills Desired: "Seeking an individual or couple that is hardworking, motivated, detail oriented and proactive to join our farm crew. Farm experience is not necessarily required but a great attitude and willingness to learn is. <br><br> Must be comfortable working alongside others as well as independently. The work is physically demanding and must be completed in all sorts of weather so good physical and mental fitness is necessary. Must be able to regularly lift 50 lbs. "
Meals: Allowance for pasture raised meat and eggs included. Garden space for personal usage is available if desired. Occasional shared meals may be provided.
Stipend: Monthly stipend dependent on experience.
