Internship Details:
“Urban Edge Sustainable Farming (UESF) offers training, mentorship, and technical assistance to aspiring specialty crop growers. UESF has 550 acres of protected farmland available for farm business incubation and long-term leasing. Land access is open to beginning farmers who train with UESF and those who have gained basic production skills elsewhere.”
Educational Opportunities: "The Year One training course combines formal classroom instruction with hands-on experience in the field. Curriculum is provided by FGF and its partners at the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) and UC Cooperative Extension. Participants receive a thorough introduction to the fundamentals of sustainable specialty crop farming, including composting, organic practices, greenhouse management, pest and disease management, healthy soil management, cover crops and crop rotation, biodynamic farming, crop planning, food safety and handling, marketing strategies, financial record-keeping, and business planning."
Skills Desired: No previous farm experience is required.
