Internship information
General Farm Description: Homefields Farm is Lancaster County's oldest CSA. Our mission is to support and create employment opportunities for farmer trainees who have a disability or other barriers to traditional employment. We've provided over 300 varieties of fresh fruit and vegetables to families in the area for over 20 years. We currently have about 10 acres in production each year.

Internship Details:

“We're looking for someone who is passionate about growing food and learning all aspects of farming. The farmhand will work alongside the Farm Manager and other employees in tasks from seeding in the greenhouse, to planting transplants in the field, to weeding, staking, harvesting and washing produce. Tractor work can be taught if desired. “

Educational Opportunities: "The farmhand will learn the basics of vegetable farming including: how to seed, how to water and care for seedlings, how to prune, how to stake plants, how to efficiently weed, the basics of drip irrigation, proper harvesting techniques and much more."

Skills Desired: Applicants must provide their own transportation to and from the farm. Applicants must be able to read and write in English and do basic math. Farm and/or garden experience is a plus but not required. Applicants must enjoy working outside and be comfortable working in most weather conditions. Applicants must be comfortable working with adults with disabilities.

Meals: "No meals are provided, we take 30 minute lunch breaks from 12-12:30pm daily."

Stipend: $10/hr. Work week is Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm with an occasional Saturday determined by farm needs and weather (not over 40/hrs per week though)

Housing: No housing is provided.
